Greetings. I hope this message finds you and your family well. By now the holidays have passed, the ìmainî part of deer season is over and life is close to normal again. January brings the closure of the archery deer season here in Maryland and many of us are trying to squeeze those last couple days of hunting. The colder temps of this time of year see our hunting styles change a bit from the more temperate days of October and November. If only we could get these cold temperatures in November, during the rut.
As temperatures fall, certain other activities begin to heat up. The MBS is now entering our busiest time of the year. This†yearíslegislative session is underway and we are already working with the MD Legislative Sportsmanís Foundation, keeping our eyes and ears open for any threats to hunting and bowhunting in particular. 2012 will also see a review of the hunting regulations in the form of DNR ís Bi-Annual Hunting Seasons and Bag Limit Review. MBS will be sitting at the table along with several other representatives from†sportsmanísorganization to develop proposals for any changes. Rest assured that we will be representing the bowhunting community’s best interests.
This time of the year is also busy for MBS as we are planning another great banquet for this March 10th. Be sure to check out the banquet ad in this issue for full details. Our banquet committee has been working hard since the day after last†yearís†banquet but they are really pouring it on now. We are sure to have yet another great list of hunts, equipment and assorted items as†raffle†and auction items. We will also be having the Pie & Cake Auction to benefit Camp Sunrise. That ís always a lot of fun as we raise much needed money for this very worthwhile charity.
Our banquet is MBS’ primary fund raising effort and we have been fortunate in recent years to be able to raise funds to not only cover our annual operating expenses but to help support the National Archery in the Schools Program here in MD. MBS has provided grants to two more schools this past year so they could be a NASP school. We also have been able to donate two more deer decoys to MD DNR this past fall to help our Natural Resources Police perform their mission. The monies we raise go to support many other†endeavors†as well. We are a Habitat Partner in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; we support the efforts of the MD Legislative Sportsman ís Foundation as they work to ensure common sense legislation in Annapolis that will protect our hunting and fishing heritage into the future.
MBS does a lot of great things with the funds we raise and it is only possible because of the generosity of our supporters and the members like you. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all that you have done thus far and for what you will do in the future. I have no doubt that the 2012 MBS Banquet will turn out to be yet another great venue and one weíll all be talking about into the summer months. Thank you and stay safe out there! Also be sure to check out the MBS Facebook Page.
Come along with us as MBS moves forward into the future of bowhunting. We’ll keep you informed and connected along the journey. Oh, and if you’re not already a member, consider hitting the “Join the MBS” button and you can help us to promote and protect bowhunting in Maryland.
I can not thank the MBS enough for introducing me to some of the finest people I know. Everyone is a cool, down to earth type of person who I really am grateful to calling a friend! Troy Knoll : TeamOverkill.net
